Advantage for Slavia? UEFA shut Legia’s cauldron for a home rematch

After dropping out of the Champions League, Slavia must throw away their grudges and focus on the Europa League double-header. If they fail to make even that, they would wander into the Conference League. And of course, the Susians can do better.
But Legia will not be an easy opponent. On paper, it might even be a bit stronger than Ferencváros. But Slavia mustn’t look back on that if they want to qualify for the Europa League group stage. Moreover, it has received a big help from Uefa for the rematch.
“Legia Warszawa informs that by decision of the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (UEFA CEDB) of 16 August 2021, the club has been fined for the partial closure of the stadium (North Stand) for the next UEFA match in Warsaw,” Legia said in an official statement on its website.
The decision came due to the use of pyrotechnics during the Champions League preliminary round match against Dynamo Zagreb. In addition, the club was fined heavily.
Against Slavia, Legia will probably have to do without its famous cauldron. However, the Polish side is not giving up. The club’s management has asked UEFA for an explanation and as soon as it is received, the club will appeal to the UEFA appeals body.
Legia fans are well-known fighters against UEFA, and in the past they have even pulled out a large choreo with the Uefa emblem and a pig inside and the slogan: ” Because football doesn’t matter, money does.”
This is not the first time that UEFA has punished Legia for this reason. In 2016, it was even reluctant to close the entire stadium against the famous Real Madrid.
