A terrifying debut for a record-breaking reinforcement. Caicedo fumbled, conceded a penalty and Chelsea went down. West Ham’s nearly €100 million cheaper newcomer shone

What a contrast. On Sunday, West Ham and Chelsea clashed in London, and for the first time ever, new signings were in both jerseys. However, the difference in their prices on the pitch was not visible, on the contrary. Unfortunately for the Blues.

While West Ham floundered with buying new signings for a long time and as a result experienced a rather poor transfer window, bringing in only two new players, the transfer merry-go-round continued in full swing at Chelsea.

The Hammers brought in their two reinforcements for a combined total of around €70 million, with the Blues’ latest signing alone costing around €115 million with it being a record transfer in the history of English football.

West Ham managed to defeat Chelsea 3-1 in the return leg. Could he have been better in the game? No. Ball possession was clearly on the Blues side, as was the number of shots, but as far as big chances were concerned, both teams were similar. Mistakes were the difference.

In Chelsea’s jersey, Enzo Fernandez, the winter’s 100 million dollar signing, missed a penalty, plus Moises Caicedo, the latest face of the Blues who arrived a few days ago from Brighton, made a terrible debut.

Caicedo is the player who cost €116 million after one good season in the Premier League at the age of 21. He came on in the 60th minute and basically decided the game, just not in his team’s favour.

Already a former Brighton star was messing up quite a bit, plus Caicedo was at fault for a penalty in injury time and it was converted by Lucas Paqueta to send the Hammers into a two-goal lead.

And what kind of contrast were we talking about? James Ward-Prowse shone in a West Ham shirt. The club brought him in for just under 35 million euros. The English midfielder played the whole game and was a key figure in the Hammers’ win, scoring two assists
