A new way of stalling? Watch the cleverness of a Getafe player against Atlético Madrid
Stalling is a very common thing in football. When your team is leading or holding an acceptable jump, you are logically stretching the time to prevent the opponent from equalizing. Players use different tricks, but Getafe’s Jaime Mata has come up with a new technique.
Stalling is a very common thing in football. When your team is leading or holding an acceptable jump, you are logically stretching the time to prevent the opponent from equalizing. Players use different tricks, but Getafe’s Jaime Mata has come up with a new technique.
Burying the ball in the back, delaying the pass, lengthy treatment, these are common tricks to stall. But Jakub Jankt’s teammate tried something new.
Getafe are having a terrible start to the season. It had five defeats and only one goal scored before the duel with Atlético. Against the defending champions, however, the Azulones went ahead but Aleñá was red-carded in the 74th minute. Getafe wanted to keep the lead at all costs.
Azulone striker Jaime Mata was left lying outside the area after a fight with Hermoso and demanded a foul be blown. However, when he saw that the referee was showing a free-kick, he quickly crawled onto the pitch and began signalling cramp and demanding treatment. If he had remained lying off the field, the game would have continued, but the referee had to stop the game.
What fans found funniest about the whole situation was that Luis Suárez, who himself has a great history of simulation and stalling, complained to the referee.
It didn’t bring the desired result for Mata, however, as it was Suárez who scored first in the 78th minute and then in the 90th minute to get all the points for the Colchoneros.
