The leading team of the German 1. Bundesliga may soon be looking forward to the return of a key striker. The Czech national team’s top scorer, who last played in a competitive match in March, has returned to training.

Bayer Leverkusen, somewhat surprisingly, lead the German top flight after six rounds, another reason to rejoice for the ambitious side now. They are announcing a big signing.

Not that they have signed a new player, but they can look forward to the return of the Czech cannon player. Patrik Schick has returned to training with his teammates and is looking for his first start this season.

Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has expressed that he is very happy that Schick is back in training and that it is also important for the Czech national team forward himself to gain confidence and match fitness.

Schick has been dealing with health issues for virtually his entire career. After a dream first season at Leverkusen last year came the downturn, which was largely due to the striker being plagued by lingering injuries.

Now, hopefully, the hard times are over for Patrik Schick. Of course, the national team will also benefit from this, Jaroslav Šilhavy will be able to count on the lanky player at the next national team meeting.

In October, Šilhavy’s squad will play Albania and Faroe Islands in the qualification cycle and Schick should be there by then. And this is definitely very positive news for the national team, as the former AS Roma, Leipzig and Sampdoria Genoa player is a key man in the national team selection.

In addition to Schick, two other Czech players, who are other former Spartans, are also working in Leverkusen: striker Adam Hložek and goalkeeper Matěj Kovář, a summer signing from the famous English Manchester United.

Xabi Alonso, however, has not relied on Czech players too much this season. Kovář plays the role of a substitute goalkeeper and Hložek usually comes into the match only from the bench, unlike last season.
