All of London has been focused on nothing else since Thursday morning. Tonight’s derby between Tottenham and Arsenal is the biggest in a long time.
The result could decide who plays in the coveted Champions League. Tottenham have missed out on the millionaire’s competition for the last two seasons, Arsenal haven’t even played the Champions League since the 2016/17 season.
Now, however, it is very close. All Arteta and co. need to do is beat Tottenham on their pitch. Then, with two rounds to go, Arsenal would already be assured of Top 4 participation.
At the moment, the Gunners are in fourth place in the Premier League with 66 points. Fifth-placed Tottenham is four points behind with 62. A Spurs win would make the last two rounds very interesting. On the other hand, a three-point gain for Arsenal would already be unattainable for the rivals.
Arsenal will then challenge Newcastle and Everton, Tottenham will play Burnley and Norwich. Arsenal have it harder, especially Newcastle is very strong at home in the spring.
If Tottenham didn’t lose so much, they would go into the game in a better position. But draws with Liverpool, Brentford and especially the loss to Brighton in the last four games have marred Spurs’ Champions League chances.
Arsenal are in great form. They have beaten Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham and Leeds in their last four games.
Returning to the Champions League, especially after a crazy start to the season, would be like a satisfaction for Arteta and co. After all, Arsenal were last after three rounds with a 0:9 record and fans were calling for the sacking of the Spanish coach.
