A blow for Felix. Pochettino doesn’t want him at Chelsea, the Portuguese is not interested in returning to Atlético

It’s not an easy situation for João Félix. He arrived at Chelsea on a six-month loan in the winter with visions of staying in London. But new coach Mauricio Pochettino does not count on the Portuguese from the new season.
Félix arrived at Atlético in 2019 for €127 million. It was a huge investment in one of the biggest talents in Europe. But João never unlocked his full potential in Madrid, also because of Simeone’s defensive style, which doesn’t really suit the offensive playmaker.
Moreover, when there was a heated argument with the Argentine coach last autumn over lack of playing time, Félix had to leave, there was no way out.
Therefore, Chelsea came as a deliverance, taking Félix on a six-month loan. Under Graham Potter, the Portuguese started decently, even though he had a three-match suspension early on, he was one of the best players in the team.
Owner Todd Boehly has been vocal about how much he likes Félix and that he wants to bring him in permanently in the summer, even the Portuguese has let it be known that he would like to stay at Chelsea, that he likes their style of play much better.
But then came the first problems. New coach Frank Lampard no longer liked Félix and started benching him. He even publicly lashed out at him, saying that he had talent but lacked hard work.
However, the club legend was at Stamford Bridge only until the end of the season as a substitute, since the summer Félix was waiting for a new coach. But it’s another blow.
Chelsea will be taken over by Mauricio Pochettino and according to Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo, he will not count on Félix from the new season.
“I honestly can’t tell you what the plan is with Joao. Yesterday we received information that the new coach does not count on him at Chelsea. Now we don’t know what will happen, João remains an Atlético player,” Colchoneros president Enrique Cerezo told Complutense.
But Félix does not want to return to the Civítas Metropolitano for logical reasons. However, there are no other offers for him at the moment and, given that he is under contract at Atlético until 2027, it won’t be entirely easy.
