AC Milan will face an important Champions League group stage clash on Tuesday 28 November. However, they will have to do without a key man against Borussia Dortmund. Rafael Leão will miss the match due to injury.
AC Milan‘s biggest star Rafael Leão is very unlikely to feature in the penultimate Champions League group stage match against Borussia Dortmund.
It is a very important match for the Rossoneri given their position in the Group F table. Stefano Pioli’s charges currently occupy only third place with five points, which would only secure them participation in the Europa League in the spring phase of the season.
Leão was the hero in the last match against PSG, when AC beat the French giant 2-1 at home. The Portuguese star was the author of the equalising goal in the 12th minute.
In any case, Leão was also very dangerous for the Parisians in the rest of the match, creating several solid opportunities for his teammates. However, in the last encounter at Lecce, he had to make a substitution in the tenth minute.
He left the pitch in pain and, as it later transpired, the 24-year-old Almada native suffered a worrying hamstring injury. Moreover, he did not join the Portuguese national team during this national break.
Leão is unlikely to miss the match against Dortmund
Journalist Daniele Longo, whose words are quoted by Football Italia, recently came up with the information that the Milan star’s recovery is not progressing as fast as Milanello had hoped.
Therefore, the club expects that Leão will indeed not start the match against Dortmund. AC are expected to issue an official statement on the matter in the coming days. However, there is also good news coming from San Siro.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has returned to training with the squad, Ismael Bennacer also had his first training session in a long time.
However, the number of injuries the AC medical team has had to deal with this season is alarming. Since the last game against Lecce, the total number of injuries is 24. In comparison, at Juventus they have dealt with only ten injuries in the same period, and at Inter only seven.
