Nottingham Forest have been hit with a hefty fine. He was given a harsh punishment for a post on the nets, the club appealed against the referee’s decision

The English Football Association (FA) confirmed the punishment for Nottingham Forest on Friday afternoon. The current tenth Premier League side was fined £750,000 (equivalent to 22.6 million crowns) for a social media post targeting video assistant referee Stuart Attwell.

This didn’t go down too well. When Nottingham Forest lost 0-2 to Everton in mid-April this past Premier League season, they simply couldn’t take some of the referee’s statements.

They posted a post on social media after the game directed at video assistant referee Stuart Attwell. The currently tenth-placed side in the English top flight briefly described that the referee made three giant mistakes in the match, which the club cannot accept.

“We pointed out to the PGMOL before the game that VAR was a Luton fan but they didn’t replace him. Our patience has been tested several times. The NFFC will now consider its options,” the Nottingham statement also said.

High fine for Nottingham Forest

As written above, the aforementioned post followed the 0-2 defeat to Everton on April 21. And therefore at a time when both teams were struggling to stay in the top flight. Nottingham Forest questioned Attwell’s impartiality with this post.

And for that he was punished, and punished quite severely. The club received a hefty fine of £750,000 from the English Football Association (FA) for the post. That’s the equivalent of 22.6 million crowns.

The association then also announced that it was an overly harsh and inappropriate post. In any case, Forest described the sanction as “wholly disproportionate” and said it would appeal the decision.

However, the FA also said in a statement that Nottingham had been warned in addition to the fine “for inappropriate behaviour in relation to comments posted on social media. “The Independent Regulatory Commission, after a hearing, found the allegations proven and imposed a sanction on the club,” ESPN quoted the commission’s statement as saying.

“The club denies that the comments posted on social media suggested bias or called into question the integrity of the match officials, or the video assistant referee,” Nottingham countered. How the matter will play out is a question at this point.

In any case, the issue now is that Forest are to pay a hefty fine for “inappropriate activity” on the networks. So far in the new Premier League season, Nottingham are doing quite well. They have only two wins in seven games, but they have lost a few games.

The club has taken ten points into this transfer window, the same as Tottenham or Brentford. Thus, it is now in tenth place in the Premier League.
