Today, the 40-year-old Spaniard was doing something unique on the pitch, he was an absolutely key player for Barcelona. The list of achievements alone speaks for itself – four times winner of the Champions League, nine times Spanish champion, six times dominating the Copa del Rey.

And that’s far from all, Iniesta has also rocked the international stage. From 2008 to 2012, he was part of the invincible Spain side that twice dominated the European Championship and also won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

But despite his exceptionalism, he never won the Ballon d’Or. In fact, in his time, European football was dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who for a long time made it impossible for other giant stars to even compete for this prestigious individual trophy.

But no one can take away from Iniesta the fact that football was a true art when he played it. In fact, you can watch the best moments below, at least in the Champions League. Yes, Iniesta made a mockery of several defenders, including Marko Suchy, who used to play for Spartak Moscow.

Iniesta will end his illustrious career

Iniesta left Barcelona in 2018, after spending 16 years in the Catalan giant’s A-team. For the next five years, the legendary Spaniard then worked in Japan, where he won the championship title, the national cup and the local Super Cup in the jersey of Vissel Kobe.

In August 2023, he then made his way to the Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates. After a year, however, he ended his stay there and has been without a contract since the summer.

And now it’s clear that he won’t be looking for another one at the age of 40. Iniesta posted a post on the X network with the caption “coming soon”, which shows a hooded artist painting a mural with his likeness, and next to the date of October 8, in English, it says: “Welcome to my future”.

According to many sources, that is when the player who shot Spain to its first title in 2010 should officially end his rich football career.
