Julen Lopetegui ahead of Liverpool: promises West Ham fans improvement. We learn from mistakes, says Hammers manager
Julen Lopetegui is having a tough start on the club’s bench. After replacing David Moyes in the summer, his team have won just one win from five Premier League games so far. The last straw for the fans was the weekend’s 0-3 defeat to Chelsea, after which there was harsh criticism. But Lopetegui believes the team will pick up and start putting in better performances.

Lopetegui: I learn from mistakes and I want better results
After the loss to Chelsea, Lopetegui openly admitted that he made mistakes in his line-up selection and tactics. One of his decisions that he questioned in hindsight was the deployment of Guido Rodriguez in the starting line-up. “We learn a lot from mistakes. But let me tell you one thing – we make mistakes even when we win. When you lose, you make mistakes, but the important thing is that we try to be better,” Lopetegui said.
“After the game I said that the first person who is responsible for the result is me. Coaches make mistakes, but we have to make decisions that will help the team compete better.”
Although West Ham have lost all their home games so far, they have shown glimpses of hope on away grounds, taking four points after a win over Crystal Palace and a draw with Fulham.
Ready for Liverpool
West Ham will face Liverpool in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday at their ground. Lopetegui knows it will not be an easy task, but believes the team has the ability to succeed at Anfield.
“We have a really important game tomorrow. We will need all our strength to get the result we want. It’s not easy, but we have to believe we can do it,” Lopetegui said before the game.
He said Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Every coach is different,” he added. You can read the press conference onWest Ham’s official website.
