- Nottingham went in front after a Chris Wood penalty but Brighton turned it around with goals from Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck
- Ramón Sosa equalised to make it 2-2 after 70 minutes to give the visitors a valuable point
- Morgan Gibbs-White receives a red card for a dangerous tackle
Dramatic moments and emotions in the match
Forest took the lead after Wood’s penalty in the 13th minute when he scored after a foul on a player in the penalty area. However, Brighton soon responded. Hinshelwood’s header equalised after a corner just before the end of the first half. Three minutes later, Welbeck beautifully curled a direct kick into the net to send Brighton into the lead.
But Nottingham didn’t give up in the second half. Substitute Sosa took his chance and equalised in the 70th minute to make it 2-2. Forest tried to resist the pressure but midfielder Gibbs-White was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Joao Pedro and had to leave the field.
After Gibbs-White’s sending off, the game escalated even further. Both coaches, Fabian Hurzeler and Nuno Espirito Santo, left the bench for unsportsmanlike conduct. Despite all the tension, the score did not change and both teams took a point.
Reactions of the players
Welbeck, who scored his first goal from a direct kick in the Premier League, expressed his disappointment with the result: “We were in a good position, we were 2-1 up, so it’s disappointing for us. It’s a hard lesson and we have to work on it to avoid similar mistakes in the future.”
On the other hand, Nottingham captain Ryan Yates praised his team’s performance. We know how good Brighton are, they have a great young coach and they play football the right way. We created dangerous chances and even though they dominated, we managed to take a point.”
A great start to the season and historic milestones for both Brighton and Nottingham
Both Brighton and Nottingham have had a great start to the season and both teams extended their unbeaten run after a thrilling game. For Brighton this means five games without defeat (2 wins, 3 draws), the longest ever streak in Premier League history.
Nottingham, on the other hand, are showing exceptional form on away grounds, where they have not lost five games in a row (4 wins, 1 draw), which they last managed in 1995. This was all helped by Danny Welbeck, who reached a major milestone of his career and scored his 70th Premier League goal.
