An emerald green Mercedes? Two teams confirm special paintwork for Singapore Grand Prix, VCARB to bring special colours

Formula 1 has one last stop before the planned autumn break. And as is tradition, teams are using the night race to apply special colouring to celebrate various events. In Singapore, we will see an emerald Mercedes, with VCARB also bringing special colours.

It’s actually a traditional thing for Singapore. In the past, McLaren, for example, has brought special paintwork here, but this year it will be two stables that will celebrate their important event with unusual colouring.

The first is Mercedes, which will be running an emerald green livery on the streets of Singapore. The reason is simply to celebrate the 50th birthday of their title sponsor, which for many years has been the Malaysian petrochemical company Petronas.

Ideally, of course, the German stable would celebrate this momentous occasion at the Malaysian Grand Prix. However, it disappeared from the calendar several years ago.

Mercedes has thus resorted to the possibility of celebrating Petronas’ birthday in a grand prix that is geographically close to Malaysia. That’s why the choice fell on Singapore.

Mercedes, VCARB, Red Bull also had special colours

The second stable to leave the Singapore race weekend in special colours is VCARB. The “B-team” of Red Bull. The intention of this team is quite clear – to promote the sponsor, Hugo, which is half of the larger fashion chain Hugo Boss.

Red Bull was also to have a special paint job. However, on Tuesday, it announced that it was scrapping its original plans. The reason is that the paint was supposed to have too much weight, which would affect the performance of the monoposto itself. And the Austrian team simply can’t afford to do that with the current problems.
