- Bayer Leverkusen is now very active in the transfer market
- The German champion has already announced three signings this summer
- A fourth may be announced in the near future, Leverkusen may strengthen Joël Matip
The reigning champion of the German top flight is strengthening before the start of the new competition year. The club’s management has already announced three reinforcements during this summer transfer window. The latest was Martin Terrier, who Bayer brought in from Stade Rennes for €20 million.
Leverkusen, meanwhile, have hunted the French team twice. In addition to Terrier, it had already confirmed the arrival of Jeanuël Belocian at the start of the transfer window, for whom it sent €15 million to France.
Overall, then, the third summer reinforcement is Aleix García, who moved to Leverkusen from Girona for 18 million euros. But this is not the end of the plans of the current German champion, who won the cup double last season thanks to their victory.
In fact, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Leverkusen have already started advanced negotiations with the former Liverpool stopper. This is because Joël Matip did not continue at the English big club after the end of last season and is now without a contract.
The same fate, by the way, befell Thiago Alcantara, who has retired. Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, among others, also reports on Bayer’s concrete interest in the thirty-two-year-old midfielder.
Matip to Leverkusen?
The Bochum native has reportedly had offers from several clubs, but Leverkusen are leading the interest. The negotiations have reached a concrete level. The Reds are currently looking for a replacement for him and have been linked with Leny Yore.
However, the latter has moved to Manchester United. During his time at Anfield Road, Matip has racked up 201 competitive games in a Liverpool jersey with a tally of 11 goals and 6 assists. In eight years he helped Jürgen Klopp win the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup, not to mention the FA Community Shield.
