Speculation confirmed: Linus Ullmark is leaving Boston for Ottawa
Last year’s Vezina Trophy winner for the best goaltender of the season is making a change after three seasons in Boston. He’s heading to Ottawa. This confirms the long-standing speculation that Ullmark will leave Boston, which will save a million under the financial ceiling and plans to bring an offensive star to the club to join David Pastrnak.

The great tandem of Swayman – Ullmark
Boston has practiced a regular rotation of these two great goaltenders for the last three seasons. They have evenly shared a portion of the regular season games, with neither being an outright number one goalie.
Swedish goaltender Ullmark started 49 regular season games in 2022/23 and picked up a whopping 40 game-winning saves. He pushed his goals against average up to 1.89 and his save percentage was well above 93.5 percent.
These unmissable performances earned him the Vezina Trophy, which is awarded to the best goaltender after the regular season. However, it wasn’t so glorious in the playoffs. In the aforementioned season, the Bruins were the biggest favourite to lose in the first round to Florida and this season they fell just one round further to the same team.
And Jeremy Swayman was slated as the #1 goalie for next season. The departure of Ullmark freed up a lot of room under the salary cap.
Ullmark said goodbye to Boston fans via social media, thanking them for their overwhelming support, saying that he is now heading off to new adventures. He left a trail of 130 games played for the Bruins in the regular season and added 10 more in the playoffs.
Will Ullmark lift Ottawa?
Either way, this trade is a huge win for the Senators. Joonas Korpisalo simply didn’t live up to expectations in Ottawa, and he’s part of the trade as well. In Boston, he’s supposed to have Swayman’s back. It will be interesting to see how Ullmark does in his new position.
Either way, there’s money to be made for both clubs. The Senators want to make the playoffs next season and Ullmark could be a big part of that. The Bruins are looking for an elite scorer.
