The European Championship is just beginning, but the fans have already found their favourite. Twenty-nine year old Hungarian forward Martin Adam is one of the players who cannot be overlooked on the pitch. “I drank beer at home during the last Euros,” he joked to the fans.
Hungary are in Group A at the Euros, along with hosts Germany, Switzerland and Scotland. Italian coach Marco Rossi’s team will most likely fight with Scotland for third position.
The results of the first duels suggest so. Germany had no major problems with Scotland and won 5:1, while Hungary could not keep up with Switzerland and lost 1:3.
In the 79th minute of the match, however, Hungary was only one goal down, so the fifty-nine-year-old coach decided to send striker Martin Adam onto the pitch. He impressed the spectators above all with his appearance and physique.
Although he did not help his nation to score, he gained a lot of attention. He is much more talked about than the team’s biggest star, Dominik Szoboszlai, who plays for Liverpool in England.
The lanky striker is a tribal player for South Korean side Ulsan HD, where he has been since the summer of 2022. He has played 23 games in the national jersey so far, scoring three goals.
However, he did not appear for Hungary at the last Euro in 2021. “Sure. I drank beer at home,” he said when asked if he remembered what he did during the last European Championship.
He became the most wanted player on the renowned Transfermarkt website. If we look at his market value, it is around 800,000 euros. In the ranking of all Hungarian players, this puts him in 34th position.
