Borussia Dortmund will lose an icon. Apart from Edin Terzic, who said goodbye to the fans via video a few days ago, another blow is coming to the hearts of Borussia fans. Mats Hummels will also leave the famous German club at the end of June.
Borussia Dortmund and coach Edin Terzic have recently mutually agreed to end their cooperation early and decided to go their separate ways. Unexpected? Whether it is or not, the fact is that BVB must now look for a new manager.
“Coach Terzic has expressed his desire to end his contract with BVB immediately. After a thorough joint discussion, the club’s management agreed and granted his request,” Dortmund explained in their official statement.
The move has understandably raised many questions and speculations about the future of both the club and coach Terzic himself, who had a lot of support from the fans.
On the other hand, one of the reasons for the premature termination of the cooperation, according to the German media, was the coach’s frequent disputes with the players in the cabin.
Dortmund loses its icon
And as a result of this, Dortmund’s icon Mats Hummels is also parting ways with the Bundesliga side. It was the 35-year-old stopper who was supposed to have a big problem with coach Terzic. In an interview with Sport Bild, he even publicly criticised his tactics and style of play in the Champions League semi-final against PSG.
Hummels’ contract expires at the end of June this year, and he himself was interested in extending it. However, on the condition that Terzic leaves the club.
And that is what happened. But to everyone’s surprise, this doesn’t mean Hummels will stay either. The club’s management reportedly no longer counts on him and will not offer him a new contract. Hummels can therefore look for a new employer in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Bergisch Gladbach native played a total of 508 games in the yellow and black jersey, scoring 38 goals and adding 23 assists. With Dortmund, he won two championship titles in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons or two domestic cup championships (2011/12 and 2020/21).
