Phil Foden will soon see an improved contract from Manchester City, according to British media reports. With the Citizens responding to interest from leading European clubs, Foden could become the highest paid British footballer ever.
Foden has been a part of Manchester City since he was a youngster. He joined the U18 squad in July 2016, after which he has already moved to the A-team a year later. The Stockport native then gradually worked his way into the starting line-up, in which he mostly established himself in the 2020/21 season.
To date, Foden has started 270 games in a Citizens jersey, scoring 87 goals and adding 53 assists.
With Manchester City, he has been a league champion six times, lifted the English League Cup winners’ trophy over his head four times, and also won the FA Cup twice.
He won quite possibly the most valuable trophy in the 2022/23 season when he dominated the Champions League with the English big club. Foden is admittedly under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the end of June 2027.
However, the Citizens are reportedly ready to offer their star a new contract. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old winger has signed a long-term five-year deal worth in excess of £200,000 per week including bonuses in 2022 in Manchester.
Foden could become the highest paid British player ever
According to the UK’s Daily Mail, the reigning Premier League champions are offering Foden a vastly improved contract. The England international could now earn up to £375,000 a week. That’s less than 11 million crowns.
The reason for the improved contract is the interest of other leading European big clubs. Citizens do not want to risk anything. The new contract is to run until 2030, Foden would become the highest paid British footballer ever if the above new salary is paid.
