Captain Poland Dziubinski: Comeback will be hard! We have the oldest team. One generation is ending, the next is yet to come

Poland came to the World Championships as a big unknown. Our neighbour’s team was a clear outsider and a relegation candidate, which unfortunately came true for them. A point from seven games is really not enough and captain Krystian Dziubinski hopes that his team will come back again after a one-year break.

The IA World Championship 2023 was won by Great Britain, with Poland finishing a point behind. Both teams were able to enjoy promotion to the elite, leaving Italy and South Korea behind.

However, it is these teams that are returning to the second performance level. In fact, Poland took just one point from their seven group games after losing in extra time to Latvia.

They led twice in the match and it looked like we were in for a surprise. But it didn’t happen, and Poland is saying goodbye to the elite, and there will be a change in the squad, because no one can stop age.

“But we know that the return will be difficult. We have the oldest team in the tournament, one generation is coming to an end, the next is yet to come. This tournament was everything for us.

We wereimproving, we gave it our all, one hundred percent, but it was hard and faster than what we are used to,” said Krystian Dziubinski, the captain of the Polish team, who is already 35 years old, after the match.

At the tournament in Ostrava, they received a lot of support from their fans, who were not too far from the border. The captain decided to thank them and he hopes that some hockey fans will join them.

“We really appreciate it and thank everyone who came to Ostrava. They kept us going every game, we fought for them and hopefully we gained new hockey fans in Poland,” he added.

Tuesday is the last day of the regular season and we can look forward to some interesting matches. But the Czech Republic and Canada will be the most interesting for the home fans. In the afternoon, the USA and Latvia are also on the agenda. In the evening, Finland and Switzerland and Sweden and Slovakia.
