It was a spectacular show, it was a fantastic fight with Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk going rounds for rounds. The judges did not have it easy, but most experts and the public agree that the Ukrainian boxer won deservedly.
The ninth round, in particular, made the difference, as the Englishman was saved from falling to the ground by the ropes at the end of the round during the count. It was a surprise, however, that one of the scoring judges saw Gypsy King win.
The fight may have been close, but would the British giant win more rounds? That doesn’t seem to be the case for many. What sparked the passion and the controversy was Tyson’s comments right in the ring after the result was announced.
Fury refused to concede defeat. Or rather, instead of admitting that Usyk was better that day, he chose to make excuses, which disappointed many people. However, thanks to the rematch clause, he will get the opportunity to return the defeat to Usyk.
Tyson Fury came up with a scary excuse
“I believe I won that fight. I believe Usyk won a couple of rounds, but I won most of them,” Tyson Fury let his voice be heard on the live stream immediately after the fight.
If he had cut his comments short at this stage, he probably wouldn’t have upset anyone too much. But unfortunately he continued, and not in a very positive way.
“I believe we delivered a good fight. The best we’re capable of. But you know, his country is at war. People are on his side because of that,” said the man who notched his first career defeat.
Gypsy King wants a rematch in the fall. It’s unclear when it will happen, but Oleksandr Usyk, who made history as the first unchallenged king in the four-belt era and who finally fully dominated the heavyweight division in addition to the welterweight division, has promised the rematch will happen. After all, according to his contract, he doesn’t even have a choice.
