Cole Palmer has joined Chelsea before this season, heading to London from Manchester City. In his debut season in a Chelsea jersey, he shines and gives a nod to club legend Frank Lampard. For the month of April, he has now received the Premier League’s best player award.

The twenty-one-year-old midfielder was very productive in April, with twelve shots enough for the aforementioned seven hits.

That’s a success rate that not even many elite strikers would be ashamed of. The talented Englishman is clearly the biggest discovery of this season, with twenty goals to his credit he is still thinking about the trophy for the best scorer of the competition. Only Manchester City forward Erling Haaland is ahead of him in this statistic, and only by a single goal.

He is also the youngest player in the top 5 European competitions to have opened the net on 20 occasions. Palmer is currently dragging his club, which is not having the best year. He is currently 8th in the table, outside the positions that guarantee European Cups.

Will Southgate make the most of his form?

Ahead of the upcoming European Championships, eyes are also on national coach Gareth Southgate, who gave Palmer his debut for the national team in November’s duel with Malta. It remains to be seen whether Palmer will assert himself in a crowded competition and get on the pitch.

Southgate in particular will have a forward packed squad, and although fans are calling for the biggest stars to be deployed, the team cannot be built on offensive players alone.
