The first semi-final of the Champions League offered us Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid. The chances of both teams were similar, but the slight favourite was Bayern, who played the first match at home.
It looked like it, Bayern worked hard at the start of the match and had several goals. But it was Real, more specifically Vinícius, who opened the net first in the 24th minute. In the second half, the turning point came when both Leroy Sané and Harry Kane scored within five minutes.
It looked like the Allianz Arena would see the Bavarian side win, but in the end it was a 2-2 draw when Vinícius, one of the most productive players in the competition, equalised from a penalty kick.
Tuchel on the draw with Real
“We had a strong start, but then we lost our rhythm a bit. We could have scored the third goal, but we were not efficient enough, we lacked composure. Then we gave them a penalty,” Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel said at a press conference.
“Real have done it before, scoring two goals from two chances. We’re not the first team to have that happen. They have the quality and are strong in the end,” added the disappointed coach.
The rematch is scheduled for next week at the Santiago Bernabéu and Real will be the favourites for the result and promotion. The latter has already shown against Manchester City that he can manage games when the momentum on the pitch is not in his favour.
“We will be ready. We will go to Madrid with confidence, we have to be brave. It’s still possible to qualify, it’s 50-50. Santiago Bernabéu is one of the hardest places to win, but that will make it even more exciting,” Tuchel concluded.
For Bayern, the Champions League is their only chance for a trophy. In the Bundesliga, it lost its long-standing dominance to unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen and was knocked out of the cup in the autumn by Saarbrücken.
