Will Arne Slot leave Feyenoord for Liverpool? The 45-year-old Dutch coach is doing a great job at the Rotterdam club. No wonder he is now high on the Reds’ list as a possible replacement for Jürgen Klopp. What is the current situation?
Arne Slot joined Feyenoord at the beginning of July 2021, for the 2021/22 season. The 45-year-old worked his way up to head coach at Alkmaar, from where he headed to the Rotterdam club.
In his first season, he led Feyenoord to third place in the league table, qualifying for the Europa League group stage. He eventually dominated the competition with 8 points, leaving behind Danish Midtjylland, Lazio Rome and Sturm Graz from Austria.
In the eighth round, Feyenoord defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 1:1 and 7:1, but fell to AS Roma in the quarter-finals (1:0, 1:4). The following season was more successful in the league. The slot returned the championship title to Rotterdam for the first time since the 2016/17 season, with Feyenoord qualifying for the Champions League group stage.
However, two sides were more successful in Group E – Atlético and Lazio. Slot and his charges got a chance to play in the Europa League again, but they lost to AS Rome in the last 16 (1-1, 1-2). This season, Feyenoord dominated the domestic cup, although the league title is not on the cards.
PSV currently lead the Eredivisie with 84 points. The club from Rotterdam is second with 9 points. In any case, it is not surprising that the coach himself is on Liverpool’s list as a potential replacement for Jürgen Klopp.
Two trophies won, participation in Europe or a very good game. These are not the only reasons why the Reds are currently in talks with the Feyenoord coach about a possible engagement. Moreover, Slot, as a progressive coach, knows how to work with young players.
Slot on possible Liverpool…
According to the latest reports, these negotiations are going well, Slot himself understandably hopes that there are no complications that would prevent him from coming to Anfield. One of them may be a contract in Rotterdam until 2026.
“I believe Feyenoord will let me go to Liverpool because it would be a huge jump for me,” said Slot after his team’s latest win, who was also quoted by ESPN.
“I’m happy at Feyenoord, but it’s clear that I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I’m waiting to see if the two clubs can come to an agreement. Now I’m just waiting to see what comes out of it. But I’m sure they will agree in the end. The clubs now have to do their job and I respect that. It will undoubtedly become clear in the next few days,” added the Dutch manager.
