In a week’s time, the dominance of the Munich giants in the Bundesliga could officially come to an end. Bayern lost again, sensationally falling to the newcomer, who was allowed to make a hardly believable turnaround. The Bavarian fans don’t believe what’s happening.

The Bundesliga could see a new king in a week’s time. For the first time ever, Bayer Leverkusen, who are having a historic season, can go for the title, which they confirmed on Saturday at Union Berlin, where they won 1-0 despite an injury to Adam Hložek.

Bayern Munich are already a whopping 16 points behind the leaders. Few people remember something like that. The reason for this is Saturday’s defeat at Heidenheim, which came as a bolt from the blue.

The charges of the criticised Thomas Tuchel, who will leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season, took a two-goal lead at the end of the first half after goals from Harry Kane and Serge Gnabry. It looked like it was done and Bayern would take the lead.

But they didn’t. Heidenheim made three substitutions after the first half and the effect was soon felt. In the 50th minute, newcomer Kevin Sessa paid back after the first half, scoring his first goal of the season to reduce the gap to one goal.

Just one minute later, the hero of the match Tim Kleindienst scored and in the 79th minute he completed the turnaround to 3:2. He now has 11 goals, the second consecutive two-goal game. Thanks to this win, Heidenheim is now in a respectable 10th place.

Bayern break records, fear for second place

While the Bundesliga newcomer from Baden-Württemberg is experiencing euphoria after the victory, the situation in Bavaria is quite the opposite. Bayern lost their second game in a row, falling to Borussia Dortmund a week ago.

To let a two-goal lead slip away? That’s not exactly ideal given the pressure Thomas Tuchel and his charges are under. Tuchel hasn’t been seen in a good light by the fans since his arrival, but the situation continues to get worse and worse.

It’s worth noting that Bayern have now lost to a newcomer to the competition for the first time since 2000. Besides, it was the sixth league defeat this season, with more than five losses suffered by the Bavarian giant last time in the 2011/12 season.

No wonder the fans are running out of patience. Tuchel is also blamed for the crisis by the club’s management. In addition, in just one week’s time, the club will play the upstart Arsenal in the Champions League, the only competition where they can challenge for the trophy. There is talk of the curse brought on by Harry Kane, however, the English striker is not the target of criticism but rather of sarcastic remarks. After all, he has been in excellent form all season.
