Arsenal have had a tough Champions League double header. They advanced to the quarter-finals via Porto on penalties. However, after the match, the Portuguese coach Sérgio Coceicao accused the rival coach of unpleasant things. Mikel Arteta was allegedly picking on his family.
The Gunners can rejoice. They’re looking at the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Surprisingly, it was penalties that decided the tie. Arsenal were expected to handle Porto much more comfortably than they did in the end.
The home team won the first match in Portugal 1:0. On Tuesday, it was expected to be a completely different spectacle at the Emirates Stadium. It wasn’t. However, Mikel Arteta led his charges to progress after Arsenal won 1: 0 after 90 minutes.
There was no goal in extra time and, as mentioned, the English club only progressed after a penalty shootout. The match was then accompanied by great emotions. The coach of the Portuguese club, Sérgio Conceicao, even revealed that Mikel Arteta had surprised him.
However, it is questionable how much his claim can be trusted. He has accused several people of various wrongdoings in the past.
Did Mikel Arteta insult the Porto coach?
“Mikel Arteta turned to our bench during the game and called my family names in Spanish,” Fabrizio Romano quotes the Portuguese coach as saying.
“I replied to him that a man who does that is not one of us. He should be worried about coaching his team. He has enough quality to play much better,” added Sérgio Conceicao.
Journalists naturally asked the Spanish coach after the game if this was true. His response was curt: “No comment. Thank you very much.”
So the question is what really happened. However, Mikel Arteta is now the subject of all sorts of speculation. The whole situation is being covered by all the sports media across the world.
