VIDEO: Big fight in the NHL! Anaheim players snapped and started a mass melee
Chicago’s clash with Anaheim had a lot of momentum. The referee handed out a total of 88 penalty minutes in the game, with one of the biggest moments being the mass melee. Even Anaheim goalie Petr Mrazek wanted to fight, Czech goalie went against Radek Gudas.
Chicago’s clash with Anaheim had a lot of momentum. The referee handed out a total of 88 penalty minutes in the game, with one of the biggest moments being the mass melee. Even Anaheim goalie Petr Mrazek wanted to fight.
The second-named team entered the game between Chicago and Anaheim with the better of the two, which was sent into the lead after ten minutes of play by Brett Leason shorthanded. Moments later, however, the game was tied when Ryan Donato took advantage of a power play after Alex Killorn was sent off.
The middle part of the game was more in the direction of Chicago, who scored three goals. But it was Leason again who gave the Ducks the lead back at the start of the second period.
But then it was the Blackhawks. Philipp Kurashev, Seth Jones and Connor Bedard struck consecutively during the second 20 minutes. By then, the head referee had handed out a total of 12 penalty minutes, with many more coming in the final period.
Chicago added two more goals. Mackenzie Entwistle made it 5:2 less than three minutes into the third period. And Kurashev scored his second goal of the game less than half a minute later.
The Ducks had two straight losses. Four days ago they were beaten by the Islanders (1:6). Two days before that they got six goals from Dallas (2:6). The third six-goal debacle in a row was clearly not mentally bearable for Greg Cronin’s charges.
Mason McTavish, a member of the Ducks’ elite offensive line, first poked Jarred Tinordi behind the net and then unleashed a mass melee. Czech goaltender Petr Mrazek also joined in, going up against Radek Gudas (Anaheim).
Melee between the Chicago and Anaheim resulted in 70 penalty minutes
As a result of this mass melee, the referees handed out another 70 penalty minutes, with Chicago’s Reese Johnson suspended for two minutes at the start of the third period and Anaheim forward Benoit Groulx serving a four-minute stay in the penalty box for a high stick.
Ducks goalie John Gibson also wanted to fight. So Czech goalie Lukáš Dostál replaced him in goal for the rest of the game.
Ironically, this mass melee didn’t help Anaheim at all. Chicago struck for the seventh time less than a minute later. This time Tyler Johnson got on the scoresheet, assisted by Bedard and Kurashev, and set the final score – 7:1.
The Ducks took a beating for the third time in a row. Their horror score for three games speaks very negatively – 4 goals scored, but 19 goals received. But it doesn’t change the situation of both clubs.
Chicago is in the fifteenth place of the Western Conference with 41 points. Anaheim is in the fourteenth place with 49 points. They are 28 points behind the last place in the NHL playoffs, which is held by Vegas.
