Raid at AC Milan headquarters! Will the police influence the rematch with Slavia Prague?

The headquarters of AC Milan were searched by the police yesterday. The raid was ordered by the Italian prosecutor’s office, which believes that there were illegalities in the sale of the club between two US companies. Is it possible that this situation will somehow affect Milan’s rematch with Slavia Prague?

Milan are dealing with some very unpleasant things ahead of Thursday’s Europa League eight-final rematch with Prague Slavia. The headquarters of the local AC was searched by the police yesterday. The reason is said to be the confusion over the last sale of the club two years ago.

In August 2022, the American company Elliott Management sold its stake in the famous Italian brand to RedBird Capital Partners, also based in the USA. However, Italian prosecutors believe that Elliot continues to manage the club.

Unless proven otherwise, the Italian Football Federation could fine AC Milan or even strip it of an as yet unspecified number of points in the table. AC are second in Serie A, 16 points behind leaders Inter.

AC Milan denies the accusations

“We take note of reports of an investigation into the current and former AC Milan chief executive over allegations that the club is still owned by Elliott and that this was kept secret from the Football Association,” the Corriere dello Sport newspaper quoted the club as saying.

The accusation is thus false, according to a statement from the Milanese big club. The official version is reportedly that AC was sold to RedBird on 31 August 2022. As of that date, Elliott no longer has any ownership stake or control over AC Milan.

In addition to the entire organization, current Rossoneri CEO Giorgio Furlani and former boss Ivan Gazidis, who served in the position from 2018 to 2022, are also under investigation. Police have searched their homes due to the possible concealment of the details of the transaction.

Will this situation affect the Milan stars’ match against Slavia in Prague tomorrow? Only psychologically, although the Sevilla players can’t count on that either. Similar cases are not uncommon in Italian football, especially in the top competition.
