Ottawa Senators surprisingly beat Tampa Bay on its own rink. The hero of the game was Mathieu Joseph, who scored two goals in the game. The Senators defeated the Lightning 4:2.
Ottawa dominated the first period
Andrei Vasilevskiy was the leading goalie for the home team. On the other side of the crease was Anton Forsberg, who started his 18th game of the season. The Russian goalie was the first to score in Tampa Bay’s game against Ottawa.
In the 11th minute, he was overcome by German forward Tim Stützle, who scored his 13th goal of the season and 51st point. Less than three minutes later, Mathieu Joseph gave Ottawa a two-goal lead.
It was a surprising 0:2 going into the locker room. Ottawa didn’t let up the pressure in the second period. The scoring advantage was celebrated in the 16th minute of the second period when Joseph scored for the second time in the game. Incidentally, it was also the game-winning goal.
Less than a minute later, Tampa Bay at least tied the game. Goaltender Forsberg was beaten by forward Mitchell Chaffee. It was only his second goal of the season. However, the Senators regained a three-goal lead early in the third period.
The 15th goal of the season was scored by the very experienced forward Vladimir Tarasenko. And the fate of the game was virtually decided. The Bolts were only able to reduce the score to 2:4, the twenty-eighth goal in the current NHL season was scored by Brayden Point.
Joseph the hero of the game
Nikita Kucherov, the league’s most productive player, did not score in the game for the first time in a long time, giving Nathan MacKinnon a chance to reduce the point difference in the scoring column.
Forward Joseph was the biggest hero of the last game. He played his first four NHL seasons in Tampa Bay and celebrated two Stanley Cups with them.
However, since he has been a Senators player, he has been unusually successful against his former employer. He has managed to score four goals in five games.
