The Carolina Hurricanes defeated Arizona 5-1 on Friday night to improve their position in the Eastern Conference. Czech forward Martin Nečas also contributed to the relatively high victory, scoring two goals for his team.

Jordan Martinook opened the scoring after just 16 seconds.

Carolina soon added a second goal at 04:50. It was scored by twenty-seven-year-old American back Jalen Chatfield. His goal was assisted by Martin Nečas in addition to Jack Drury.

The Coyotes, however, managed to at least reduce the deficit by the end of the first period, with a goal by young Dylan Guenther. But in the rest of the game it was Carolina that set the pace.

The Hurricanes outshot their opponent 9:5 in the middle period and eventually scored two more goals. Seth Jarvis scored at 26:28 and Teuvo Teravainen added another Carolina goal with less than three minutes left in the second period.

Although the Coyotes were statistically the better team in the third period and outshot their opponent, they couldn’t score again. On the other hand, the visitors added one more goal, the Hurricanes’ fifth goal by Michael Bunting, assisted by Nečas.

Nečas rises in Czech scoring

Nečas continues to climb up the scoring ranks of Czech hockey players. The Hurricanes forward has 16 goals and 21 assists in 48 games for a total of 37 points.

Three points behind him are Tomas Hertl (15+19) and Pavel Zacha (12+22). Nečas is four points behind second-place Filip Hronk (4+37).

Carolina is fourth in the Eastern Conference with 67 points after 53 games played, six points behind the Rangers in third. Arizona, on the other hand, is 13th in the Western Conference standings with 50 points. Czech goaltender Karel Vejmelka also played in the game, but was replaced by Matt Villalta midway through the third period.
