Alex De Minaur will play the final match in Rotterdam. On Saturday, he defeated Grigor Dimitrov without any major problems and avenged his defeat from last year. He also made his birthday much more enjoyable.
On his 25th birthday, Alex De Minaur played a semi-final match against Grigor Dimitrov in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. They also clashed on the exact day a year ago, when the Bulgarian tennis player enjoyed a quarter-final victory.
This time, however, the 11th player in the ATP rankings entered the match in a great way. He took his opponent’s serve away with a clean game at the beginning of the match. The Australian also had some problems on serve, but managed to turn away both break point opportunities in the fourth game of the first set.
From then on, the players guarded their serve without any major problems. Saturday’s birthday boy finally managed to convert his third set point and won the opening set 6:4. It lasted 42 minutes.
Also at the beginning of the second act, De Minaur was able to concentrate perfectly on his return and again took a quick lead with a break advantage. This put the experienced Bulgarian in a very uncomfortable situation.
Dimitrov could not find a way out of it for the rest of the match. The second set also lasted 42 minutes, but the Australian was successful twice on the return and won 6:3.
De Minaur gave himself a fantastic 25th birthday present and scored another very valuable scalp. This year he has already found a recipe for Novak Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev.
He could score another one on Sunday when he challenges the better of Griekspoor – Sinner in the first final of the year. The paper favourite is definitely the recent winner of the Australian Open.
