Victor Wembanyama, a hot candidate for rookie of the year, is already conquering the NBA carousel in his first season. On the floor of Toronto, the 20-year-old Frenchman made history after he recorded a triple-double with 10 blocks and added 5 assists.

Wembanyama achieved a triple-double with 10 blocks

Victor Wembanyama notched his second triple-double of the season. And he significantly helped the San Antonio Spurs to only their 11th win of the season. But he didn’t just get a triple-double!

Overwhelmingly, players collect double-digit points, rebounds and assists to achieve this all-around feat. However, Wembanyama managed to rack up a triple-double of 24 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 122-99 win on the Raptors’ floor! He also had 5 assists.

He made history

This is a historic achievement in the NBA. Only two other players in the last 40 years have managed to collect a triple-double with 10 blocks and have at least 5 assists.

Only David Robinson and Hakeem Olajuwon have done it in NBA history. So Wembanyama with an average of well over 3 blocks per game clearly dominates all players this season. Olajuwon has collected the most triple-doubles with at least 10 blocks in NBA history with 11.

Dikembe Mutombo did it ten times and David Robonson did it nine times, the only player in NBA history to record a quadruple-double. In 1994, he scored 34 points on ten assists and blocks. No one has ever done it again.

So Wembanyama joined this great company and did it all in just 29 minutes on the floor. The last time such a feat was recorded by Clint Capela on January 22, 2021. That was the last time anyone blocked 10 shots in a game so far.

Blocks first started being recorded in the NBA stats in the 1973/74 season. And since then Wembanyma is only the fourth rookie and the first since 1990, when David Robinson just recorded a triple-double with 10 rebounds.

This season, with an 11-43 record, it’s definitely not a playoff run for San Antonio. However, the team is building a team for the future that will be built on Wemnbany’s play and in a few seasons we could have a dominant San Antonio team like the Tim Duncan era.
