Liverpool will be without a coach from the end of the current Premier League season. The current Reds manager Jürgen Klopp has officially announced that he will leave the famous English club at the end of the 2023/24 season. It is therefore clear that Liverpool will be looking for his successor. And the first speculation of a move to Anfield Road now being linked to Xabi Alonso.
Jürgen Klopp will leave Liverpool after nine years at the end of the current Premier League season. The German coach confirmed the news on Friday morning via the club’s official channel.
The Reds will therefore lose their coaching stalwart and will have to look for a new pilot. Klopp cited the reason as simply that he is exhausted and needs a rest. This is perfectly understandable according to the reactions of other coaches. Especially in such a tough competition as the Premier League.
So it is natural that there is already speculation across the footballing landscape about who could replace him as Liverpool’s head coach.
What is certain is that he will not come to the helm of one of the best clubs in the English top flight “just anyone”. After all, Klopp has won seven trophies with the famous English outfit.
In 2018/19 it was the Champions League, 2019 meant winning the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. Then in the 2019/20 season, Liverpool won the Premier League title, and later the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield.
Xabi Alonso’s move to Anfield Road is the most talked about. He donned the Liverpool jersey for five years during his playing career. Now, moreover, as a coach, he is doing a very good job at Bundesliga side Leverkusen.
Xabi Alonso to Liverpool?
“It is understandable that there are already various speculations. However, I am focusing on Bayer Leverkusen. I am very happy with my players at Leverkusen at the moment. But of course, it’s a big surprise for Liverpool. What Jürgen has done at Liverpool deserves a lot of respect and recognition,” said Xabi Alonso, whose words were quoted by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano on the X platform.
Objectively, however, it can be said that Xabi Alonso could be the right and ideal candidate for the post of Liverpool coach. He is already proving his coaching skills at Leverkusen, with whom he is well on his way to winning the championship.
“Xabi Alonso is the personality to follow Klopp. There may be some concerns about his lack of experience as a coach, but everything he has touched in Germany has turned into gold. It’s a bit like Klopp’s days at Borussia Dortmund,” writes the British newspaper The Telegraph.
