Novak Djokovic will not add an eleventh title at the Australian Open! In the semifinals, he fell short to the rising Italian star

The spectators who came to Rod Laver Arena on Friday certainly did not regret their decision. The first two sets were clearly dominated by the Italian player, but then Djokovic stopped making so many mistakes and the game evened out. However, for the first time in his career, the Serbian tennis player finishes the Australian Open just outside the gates of the final.

Jannik Sinner did not lose a single set on his way to the semi-finals. In a great frame of mind, he also took on the world number one in Rod Laver Arena, to which the Serbian tennis player could not find an answer.

The opening set of the match lasted only 36 minutes, and the Italian youngster won it with a 6:1 ratio. Sinner did not offer his opponent even one breakball opportunity. However, the key factor was 15 unforced errors from Novak Djokovic‘s racket.

The second set was in a similar vein. It lasted 39 minutes, during which the world number one lost his serve twice and lost 6: 2. The Serb produced 14 unforced errors this time, which is not enough for Sinner, who is playing in the form of his life.

Djokovic did not return to the match after a bad start

The ten-time Australian Open winner was already 2:0 down in sets in 75 minutes, having won only three games. The thirty-six year old tennis player found himself in a situation that is not at all usual for him.

But the third set was already much more even. Both players held their serve without any major complications, so the winner had to be decided in a tiebreak. For Djokovic it was the fifth tiebreak of the tournament, for Sinner only the second.

The Serbian representative showed great mental resilience, as he managed to turn away the matchball and eventually won the shortened game for himself by 8.6.

But the fourth set was again in the Italian tennis player’s hands. He quickly took the lead with a break advantage, which he was able to keep and could enjoy his first progression to a Grand Slam final. He will play the better of Medvedev – Zverev on Sunday.
