The worst stable name in F1 history? Red Bull second team is getting a lot of criticism. Boring and pathetic, fans say
Visa Cash App RB F1 Team – that’s the new name of the team formerly known as Scuderia AlphaTauri. Quite objectively speaking, it would be hard to find a worse stable name in F1 history. “RB”, as the team will be called in the Formula 1 environment, understandably faces a lot of criticism from fans.
Visa Cash App RB F1 Team – this is the new name of the team formerly known as Scuderia AlphaTauri. Quite objectively speaking, it would be hard to find a worse stable name in F1 history. “RB”, as the team will be called in the Formula 1 environment, understandably faces a lot of criticism from fans.
It’s been a long time coming, with potential names being floated beforehand that have scared more than just fans of the queen of motorsport. Everyone associated with F1 was then relieved when, for example, the name Hugo Boss Tauri was finally dropped.
Probably the best of all the potential names that have been bandied about in the last few weeks and months was “Racing Bulls” for Red Bull”.
But it’s all different in the end. Red Bull’s second team will eventually be called the “Visa Cash App RB F1 Team”, using the acronym VCARB. However, the official Formula 1 website, in its article, lists the acronym as purely RB.
Is there a worse team name in the history of the sport? There have, of course, been many spoofs. But in terms of association with a credit card issuer, the stable that only very briefly participated in the 1997 season excelled. The Mastercard Lola F1 Team.
However, it gave up Formula One after just one grand prix. Its drivers, Vincenzo Sospiri and Ricardo Rosset, failed to qualify for the inaugural Australian Grand Prix. And the Mastercard Lola F1 Team did not enter the Brazilian race at all.
F1 fan reaction
However, the fans’ negative reactions to the new name of Red Bull’s second team are understandable. It simply doesn’t have much to do with the sporting aspect. It is no wonder that fans of the queen of motorsport are describing the “rebrand” as pathetic, embarrassing and boring.
“It would make sense if it was April 1. Given what happened recently with the Sauber rebrand, you’d think they’d learn from it,” writes Phil McMillan, referring to the name that will be given to the Swiss Sauber stable from the 2024 season (Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber).
“This thing and the Sauber name is something incredibly annoying. We’ve never named a team after its title sponsor before, Ferrari wasn’t Marlboro, McLaren wasn’t Vodafone, Williams wasn’t Martini etc., the team name is important and we need to look at the rules around team name changes,” Murray points out.
“This is a joke. Anyway, this is Formula One’s fault, it’s a sign of the times. It’s no longer about the prestige of the factories, it’s just a cash cow, ” Simon B is clear.
“The Visa Cash App car is now overtaking the Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber car,” suggests the bizarreness of the whole situation to F1 David. Other fans are asking what’s going on with F1?
They are referring, of course, to the fact that Liberty Media, as owner of the marketing rights, favours shows and city circuits over traditional ones. And the new team names suggest a lot, they say.
