Sidney Crosby is the 21st leading scorer in NHL history

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby scored his 27th goal of the season and 577th career NHL regular season goal. He moved into 21st place on the NHL history charts after passing Mark Recci. However, it wasn’t enough to win the game in Arizona.

Sidney Crosby made another move in the history charts

In the game Arizona Coyotes vs Pittsburgh Penguins (5:2), Penguins captain Sidney Crosby scored one goal. This goal brought the game to 2:2, but after that only the home team of Arizona scored with a great catch by Connor Ingram.

It was Crosby’s 27th goal of the season and 577th goal in the regular season. Despite the defeat, he can at least take comfort in the fact that he made another move in the NHL history charts. He scored his 577th goal in the regular season and moved up to the 21st place along with Mark Recchi.

Crosby has already surpassed 7 NHL goal scorers in the historical scoring charts this season alone, leapfrogging John Bucyk and Canadiens legend Guy Lafleur early in the season. He was followed by living legend Mike Modano. He was followed by Joe Nieuwendyk.

Last but not least, Mats Sundin, Patrick Marleau and New York Islanders legend Mike Bossy. However, Bossy’s career was cut short by a serious injury that prevented him from continuing his career at the top level. To date, this goal scorer has the highest goals against average in NHL history.

More moves in sight

By the end of the season, he will surely establish himself as the 21st ranked goal scorer. That’s a sure thing. However, he’s 24 goals behind Jarri Kurri for 20th in the cannonballer standings, and that’s unrealistic given his age and shooting potential in recent seasons.

He’s currently 14th in the historical charts in assists, and he’s 44 assists behind 13th-ranked Nordiques/Avalanche legend Joe Sakic. That’s more on the agenda early next season. However, in terms of points, he is 13th and now 30 points behind 12th-ranked Ray Borque. And that’s certainly within Crosby’s power this season.

Considering that Crosby is 36 years old, it is safe to assume that he will be able to play at least 3 more seasons. And with the way he’s playing this season, you can expect him to still leapfrog a lot of people in all the aforementioned stats by the end of his career.
