Jayson Tatum scored his 10,000th career point in the second quarter of Saturday’s 124-114 win over the Brooklyn Nets. What’s more, he did it at just 25 years old.

The American basketball player of the Boston Celtics thus surpassed the legends of the club such as John Havlicek, Larry Bird and Paul Pierce. They were not even the record holders, but Antoine Walker was. He reached the mark a year later.

Tatum, drafted No. 3 overall in 2017, is averaging 29.8 points per game this season. He finished the game with 32 points and 11 rebounds.

It’s admirable that he reached that mark at such a young age. Since in an organization like the Boston Celtics whose rivalry with the L.A. Lakers for the best team of all time puts tremendous pressure on success. And not everyone can handle that pressure.

So in a Celtics jersey, he took over the club record. According to NBA history, at 25 years, 246 days, he is the 10th youngest player to reach that mark. The record is held firmly by Lebron James, who was more than two years faster at 23 years 59 days.

The man, who also has a gold medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, has almost accomplished reaching immortality in the Celtics organization. However, in 2022, his team fell to the Golden State Warriors in the finals 2 – 4. Thus, the last person to take Boston to a title is still in 2008 Paul Pierce.

However, this young Celtics workhorse still has many seasons ahead of him to accomplish this task. And it’s only a matter of time before he reaches the 20,000 point mark, which in the NBA truly marks the mark of quality and legend in this sport and is an indirect ticket to the Hall of Fame.

Tatum has already been selected to the All-Star game 4 times, 3 times he has been selected to the Top 5 of the season. Then in 2023, he was also the MVP of the All-Star game.
