After tonight’s duel between the Swedes and the Swiss, it is clear that the 20’s will face a semi-final battle with the home team Tre Kronor.

The final passage of the Czech team’s game with Canada was underway when Jakub Štancl sensationally dealt the Canadians a killing blow with 11 seconds left. The foursome of Slovakia, Canada Latvia and Switzerland are out of the tournament. Finland, Czech Republic, USA and Sweden will advance to the medal round. The national team can still look forward to the hope of defending last year’s silver medals from Canada.

The Czechs will challenge the home Swedes

After a valuable scalp of the big favourite, Patrik Augusta’s charges are waiting for another big bite. This time they will face the home Swedes, who are playing very well in the tournament. Already at the beginning they were considered a great candidate for at least the final.

The Swedes did not even score in the first three matches in the regular group. In front of a sold-out crowd, they defeated Latvia 6:0, Germany 5:0 and Canada 2:0. They came up short in their last game against the Finns, where they came out of a tightly contested game one under after losing 4:5 after a shootout. The Swedes won the regular group “A”.

On the other hand, the Czech team did not start the tournament in the best way. They were defeated by the Slovaks 2:6. A day later, the Czechs were fortunate to beat Norway 8:1.

The game against the USA was to show whether the Czechs have a chance to play against the best teams. And it was there that it was confirmed that the Czech youngsters can really think about a solid result at the tournament. The Americans won 4:3 after the shootout, but our team definitely had nothing to be ashamed of.

At the end of the regular group, the national team pushed the Swiss 4:2. Despite this, the national team finished third in the group table, which meant that they had to play against Canada. Now the Czech team will face Sweden at home.

The Czechs will go into the game with a lot of confidence. They have already shown that they can beat anyone in the tournament. The duel against the home team is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. The opening bullpen will hit the ice at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg at 15:00.

In the second semi-final, the USA will take on Finland. The Czech fans will be able to watch this match without nerves. The evening match starts in the same hall at 19:30.
