It’s been almost a month since his painful defeat to Alex Pereira. Jiri Prochazka was the better man in the fight. But that means nothing in MMA. One mistake can decide the winner and the loser. That’s exactly what happened to him. He got carried away and fell into a trap.
There was a lot of talk about whether or not the fight was stopped too soon. The Moravian samurai himself said after the fight that it was not, but in hindsight he admitted that it was stopped early and that he didn’t want to criticize the referee or make any excuses.
Fortunately, Walker was not terminated in any brutal fashion. He did not get a long stoppage. Moreover, he immediately started talking motivatedly about the next duel. On social media he tried to arrange a fight with Khamzat Khimaev, besides he was thinking about something unconventional.
So he speculated about a possible change of weight class for one fight. However, on Thursday, he got an interesting challenge that could do without moving to another division. Plus, with a man to deal with.
Prochazka reacts to the gauntlet thrown down
More or less all the fighters from the top light heavyweight division had fights lined up. That’s why Jiri Procházka toyed with the idea of trying another division. Johnny Walker will fight Magomed Ankalaev, Alex Pereira is waiting for Jamahal Hill, Aleksandar Rakic was supposed to fight Jan Blachowicz.
Blachowicz was injured and had to pull out of the rematch. It’s worth noting that the Blachowicz vs. Rakic duel was supposed to take place for the first time last March. The Pole was injured then as well. The fight took place in May, and due to the opponent’s injury, the Pole won.
Rakic was to have his first fight after his injury. He had confidence in Blachowicz. But he would have to wait for a possible rematch with him. So he threw down the gauntlet to the Moravian samurai on social media instead.
“Let’s see if the samurai has the balls to step up Jan 20th.,” the Serbian fighter challenged the former UFC or Rizin champion. Fans were thrilled by his challenge, waiting to see the reaction of the challenger and the UFC as well.
And what did Prochazka say? “I am in, but the earliest time I can be in octagon is February/March. Accept?” replied the native of Czech republic.
Rakic, by the way, has challenged the Moravian fighter more than once in the past. He has even made some not-so-positive comments about him. So their duel could have a very interesting context. Moreover, it could be very interesting for European fans.
