Ronaldo here, Ronaldo there, or the media makes a teddy bear a living child

Cristiano Ronaldo is a great phenomenon who will no doubt be referred to as one of the best footballers to ever play the sport for many years after our deaths. It’s just that at the moment he is definitely being exaggerated far more than he deserves. Why is that?

Just type in Ronaldo and people click. Certainly more so than someone talking about, say, Breel Embol. A once great talent who was prevented from glory by injury. That’s simply an indisputable fact that explains everything.

ThePortuguese striker has been scoring goals regularly again recently. But so do many people all over the planet, so why is CR7 the one seen everywhere so much? And even though his goals are far less valuable than the aforementioned Swiss striker who plays for Monaco?

In the last 25 games, there have only been 7 times that Ronaldo has not scored. This is certainly a famous result, even more so when we consider that he has scored a total of 28 goals.

With such a cadence, he continues to break all sorts of goalscoring records. Considering that Ronaldo will be 39 years old in February, his physical condition is admirable. It’s just that…

Media fairy tale vs. reality

When Ronaldo left Europe, he had just 3 goals in 16 games in a Manchester United jersey. Many might argue that the Red Devils were awful. One can agree with that. It’s just that he didn’t do any better in the Portuguese national team.

From June to the end of the World Cup in Qatar, he scored just 3 goals in 10 games. The World Cup in particular was a big flop and Ronaldo played a big part in that. After all, the team was used to playing him and the changes during the championship were a futile effort.

This year, however, Ronaldo has really picked up his breath and is firing. The stats have already been mentioned at the beginning of the article. But more important than these numbers are the opponents that the star CR7 is playing against.

Previously, Portugal has played against Spain, Uruguay, Morocco or the Czech Republic. Ronaldo has not scored a goal against any national team. This year, the star striker has scored twice against Liechtenstein, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Luxembourg.

We don’t even need to mention the opponents in the Saudi Pro League. Even more so when Al Nassr is clearly one of the best teams in the league, and by a steamer.

Then if Ronaldo wanted to keep pushing the scoring records, he had to leave the world’s best leagues for somewhere that would allow him to do so. In that respect, Saudi Arabia was a great salvation for him. For he has exactly what he needs – he scores goal after goal and his star shines brighter than ever.

With virtually no reason to do so, as it’s clear from the above facts that admiring him so much for scoring goals against significantly weaker teams when teammates continue to work primarily on him is…

The point of this musing was not to knock Ronaldo in any way. The Portuguese striker is a legend of all legends, and together with Lionel Messi, they have done football an incredible service. For that he deserves all the credit. What’s more, we can also expect Cristiano to quite possibly whip up one last amazing performance at the Euros next year. This year, however, is being exaggerated at the expense of others far too much.
