Jannik Sinner entered the ATP Finals as a dark horse. His results so far have exceeded expectations and the Italian is rewriting his country’s tennis milestones. What does Carlos Alcaraz predict for him and what great stats can Sinner boast?
Sinner has made Turin crazy
When he was drawn in the green group along with Djokovic at the final ATP tournament of the season, it was immediately clear which duel would be the showpiece of the regular phase of the ATP Finals. Jannik Sinner defeated Djokovic and triggered an incredible tennis mania in his country.
And rightly so, as he became the first Italian to play in the semi-finals of the prestigious event for the eight most successful tennis players of the year. The celebration of his another victory in Turin was definitely out of the ordinary post-match situation.
Alcaraz’s guess and Sinner’s incredible balance
Current world number two Carlos Alcaraz is clear about the South Tyrolean native’s qualities. The Spaniard is convinced that Sinner will challenge for the world number one position. And his results not only in Turin clearly indicate that.
And Alcaraz is relatively new to the game of his 22-year-old rival. In his victorious ride through Beijing a month and a half ago, Sinner ran him over 2:0 in sets.
Most of the world’s top players have similar experience. In fact, with one exception, the Italian tennis player has beaten all of his biggest rivals in their last match.
Apart from the aforementioned Djokovic and Alcaraz, Sinner has also recently defeated the Russian Medvedev. He even beat him twice, in Vienna and Beijing.
In the Austrian capital, the Italian also took on Russia’s Rublyov and in the most recent match, the Dane Rune took away the form of the home fighter right in Turin. The latter, unlike Sinner, played for everything and could have secured a sensational qualification to the semi-finals with a win.
Only one of his opponents in Turin is missing from the young Italian’s list of victories. That is the German Zverev, who was the only one to make it through his last duel with Sinner. He did it at this year’s US Open after a five-set battle.
Conclusion
Sinner is the most pleasant surprise at the end of this season. His mutual record is respectable, but let’s add that it is Zverev who can face him pretty well in the semifinals of the ATP Finals. Will the last name missing from the list of scalps be added to the list?
