Wednesday’s football schedule will feature the early morning South American stage of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. What to expect from Ecuador’s match against Chile for the sixth place and what to bet on?
Ecuador vs. Chile analysis, preview
Ecuador is bravely fighting off a three-point deduction, currently in the sixth place for promotion. However, it has only a scoreline advantage on the barrage position. It has lost only one of its five qualifying matches.
Chile, on the other hand, has aged the legendary generation from the 2014 World Cup, and is also currently on five points and in non-advancing eighth place. Only one point from the last two matches, also due to the fact that they finished with a red card on both occasions.
Ecuador’s key figures
The star of the last World Cup, Enner Valencia, is still shining at the age of 34, scoring ten times and assisting twice in a Brazilian Internacional jersey. On average, stopper Félix Torres scores a goal every third game in both the league and the national team.
Key figures for Chile
Marcelino Núñez is thriving in the away jersey, the central midfielder has already netted three national team goals this year. Alexis Sánchez is already picking up minutes one at a time at Inter Milan and is still a mainstay in the national jersey.
Ecuador vs. Chile odds, betting tips
Ecuador relies on a solid defense, getting only five goals in the past eight games, keeping three nil. Even at the World Cup in Qatar, the team performed well, failing to qualify for the playoffs due to an unlucky goal against Senegal.
Chile will have an even harder time because it hasn’t scored at all in three of its past four games. The only win in qualifying came at home against Peru, which is why I expect it to be for zero points in Ecuador.
Considering the weaker scoring seasons of both teams, especially Chile, it might be worth betting on one of the teams not scoring. After all, the last four games between the two countries have offered a combined total of three goals.
