The events around the ATP circuit bring one interesting news after another. Alcaraz has a significant problem in his planned assault on the top of the rankings. Rune’s terrible results bring Boris Becker back on the scene. How will he help the Dane?
When Carlos Alcaraz crashed out of the final tournament in China last week in the eighth round, he opted for a quick return to Europe and a complete break from tennis.
It was originally supposed to last a week, and after it would come Alcaraz’s assault on the top position in the ATP rankings. It was supposed to start in Basel, Switzerland, but in the end it won’t.
The world number two withdrew from the Swiss tournament due to two health problems. The first is inflammation in his foot and the second is his back. This year’s Wimbledon winner should be able to finish the season.
Cutting the Danish diamond
It is a quality end to the season that is the main goal of Boris Becker’s arrival in Holger Rune’s team. The six-time Grand Slam winner is supposed to help the young Dane with the mental side of his game.
The tennis legend has known his charge for a long time. And he has plenty of words of praise for Rune’s game. However, the Dane also has room for improvement.
He’s been struggling incredibly since his back problems this summer. He’s only won once in his last eleven matches.
“He’s a diamondin the rough that needs polishing,” the 20-year-old told Eurosport. Becker has not yet made it to the Stockholm tournament, so the newly formed collaboration may start to bear fruit in Basel.
The goal is clear: with Becker’s help, Rune would like to stay on the ranks of the Tournament of Champions. It has been on the schedule since November 12 in Turin.
Finally..
The two tennis players are united by their youth. It’s amazing that both are already in the top ten of the rankings at this age. Alcaraz also has Grand Slam titles in his pocket. It’s hard not to want more, but time is certainly not pressing either of them.
