Love or career: will Tsitsipas silence critics with his performances on the courts?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the most successful tennis player in Greek history, but recently his performance has been declining. Is his relationship with a Spanish tennis player to blame? What did the tennis player himself have to say and when will he have the chance to repair his reputation on the tennis courts?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the most successful tennis player in Greek history, but recently his performance has been declining. Is his relationship with a Spanish tennis player to blame? What did the tennis player himself have to say and when will he have the chance to repair his reputation on the tennis courts?
No Greek has ever climbed this high in the ATP rankings. Stefanos Tsitsipas is a former world number three. But he is currently ranked seventh and is on the verge of participating in the Tournament of Champions.
His slump in results is best illustrated by his results in the last two months. The 25-year-old Greek has not won more than one match at any of the tennis events, and of course he has been one of the highest seeded players everywhere.
For example, at the US Open he was knocked out by the twenty-one-year-old Swiss Stricker, in the Davis Cup he was even beaten by the second-ranked player Alex Molčan from Slovakia.
Does girlfriend come first?
Tsitsipas makes no secret of his relationship with Spanish tennis player Bados. And this is the water on the mill of his critics.
According to his critics, the Greek tennis player is more devoted to his girlfriend than to tennis. But Tsitsipas is happy and rejects the criticism.
“My meeting with Paula has given me a completely different view of the world,” the Greek praises his current life situation, according to the Tennismajors website. He is positive that life is no longer just about tennis for him.
And the fact that his results are weaker is normal. Every tennis player has fluctuations of form during his career.
Now he has a tournament in Antwerp where he will be the number one seed. And confirmation of that position would be the best answer to all the aforementioned insinuations.
Finally…
It’s hard to win without proper motivation. Tsitsipas could turn all the unpleasant debates about his personal life into a challenge. After all, Bados’ ranking high is second place. The Greek number one has never been that high.
