Chelsea’s owner is going to borrow another £250m for reinforcements and a stadium. The total loan could exceed a billion
Chelsea have never held back in spending on new signings since the arrival of Roman Abramovich. However, since the club was taken over by American owner Todd Boehly, the Blues have completely taken themselves off the chain and are investing huge sums in new players. But so far, no results.

Bloomberg has reported that Chelsea are considering another big loan, this time for around £250 million. This would bring the total loan to over a billion pounds.
In a bid to ensure the future success of the club, the Blues management was to approach Bank of America Corp to provide strategic advice. But the move comes at a time when the club is already carrying a significant debt burden.
At the moment, Chelsea’s owners have amassed loans of an astonishing £800 million. However, they are considering extending their borrowing capacity even further, potentially to a staggering £1.05 billion.
The main aim of this major borrowing project is to provide the club with the necessary financial capital for player purchases and the extensive refurbishment of their iconic home stadium, Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have seen a significant change in ownership dynamics since Clearlake Capital and investor Todd Boehly took control in May 2022. Their time in charge has been marked by significant investment, particularly in player purchases.
For the 2022/23 season, the Blues paid a whopping €612 million for new signings, and this summer so far they’ve brought in players for €462 million. Not even entire leagues have spent that much, let alone one team.
Despite the ambitious investment, however, Chelsea’s efforts have not yet translated into successful results. The Blues are currently only in 14th place, with just one win from six league games.
