There is a rather unfavourable atmosphere around Barcelona at the moment, as the police searched the offices of the referees’ commission at the Spanish Football Federation headquarters on Thursday morning as a result of the Negreira case. Carlo Ancelotti is also concerned about the situation, and he commented on the issue at a press conference before the match against Girona.

In March this year, the Public Prosecutor’s Office accused the Catalan big club of serious offences, namely influencing referees, embezzlement and falsifying documents.

Thus, as part of the case called Negreira, the police searched the offices of the referees’ commission at the national football federation’s headquarters on Thursday morning, and as confirmed by MARCA, the whole operation was aimed at finding documents related to the aforementioned case.

MARCA then adds in its next article that the accused in the Negreira case are also former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell.

They were alleged to have transferred up to 7 and a half million euros between 2001 and 2018 to the account of a company belonging to the then vice-president of the Commission of Arbitrators, José María Enríquez. And this is what constitutes the offence known as bribery.

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez said he would not give any further opinion on the matter. However, he did reveal that he never felt he was somehow favoured by the referee.

The current situation is understandably worrying for everyone involved in Spanish football. And that includes Carlo Ancelotti, who commented on the subject in a press conference before the Girona match.

“I think I’m as concerned about this problem as everyone else. It is a very serious matter and the Ministry of Justice is already working on it. We have to let them work and hopefully they can resolve the matter, ” said the Real Madrid coach.

“I’ve been in this world for 40 years and when problems like this happen, it worries all of us. I hope for justice and that the investigators can find a solution,” he added.
