Ancelotti lost the Madrid derby and the management is already looking for a replacement? Who is the best candidate for the Real Madrid bench, according to Spanish media?
Real Madrid tasted the bitterness of defeat for the first time in the new season when they fell short to Atlético in the Madrid derby at the Wanda Metropolitano. Following the defeat, reports emerged in the Spanish media that Los Blancos management is unhappy with the work of experienced manager Carlo Ancelotti and has reportedly already scouted a replacement.
Ancelotti gets special treatment at Real Madrid
The job of Real Madrid coach is not an easy one, as many highly successful coaches have found out. Even if the team’s results are satisfactory, one bad match can turn the whole situation around.
When Carlo Ancelotti sat on the Real Madrid bench in June 2013, the goal was clear. The club wanted a tenth triumph in the millionaire Champions League. Although the experienced Italian pilot did not persevere in the domestic La Liga, he managed to win the Copa del Rey and the coveted La Décima in his first season.
Florentino Pérez was indebted to the man who brought the Eared Cup to the Santiago Bernabéu after an incredible twelve years. Unfortunately, he was unable to build on the success of his first season in the following years and was dismissed in 2015.
But Pérez has not forgotten. When Zinedine Zidane, who with his team had procured one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, announced his resignation in 2021, it was Ancelotti who received a phone call from his former employer.
Once again, Ancelotti did not disappoint his boss. He became Spanish champion in his first season and added a 14th Champions League triumph for the winners. But history repeats itself and last season his team finished without a title again.
His start to the new season has been excellent, but losing the Madrid derby could change everything
Then, during the summer transfer window, the team had to deal with the departure of their biggest offensive star Karim Benzema. The club did sign Jude Bellingham, but in the French star’s place came the lesser-known Joselu.
The start of the new season has been excellent for Real. Los Blancos have taken full points from the first five league rounds and won their first Champions League group stage match. However, they lost to Simeone’s Atlético in the first big test in the Madrid derby and the first critical reactions are already starting to be heard.
In particular, the Italian coach has been accused of preferring the Kroos-Modric pairing in the derby instead of Tchouaméni, who has played superbly in recent weeks. In attack, he did not use the working duo of the aforementioned summer reinforcements, as Joselu only started on the substitutes’ bench.
Thus, according to Spanish media, Real Madrid management has already started looking for a replacement for coach Ancelotti. And they have found it in the form of the former midfielder, who has acquired the announced La Décima under the Italian manager.
Does the club’s management already have a replacement for the experienced coach?
That is none other than Xabi Alonso, who played for Los Blancos from 2009-2014. The club took care of the former charge even after his professional career ended, having secured Alonso a coaching course and it was Real Madrid’s U14 youth team that was his first coaching stint.
Alonso took over Bayer Leverkusen of Germany during last season, with whom he finished sixth in the Bundesliga, guaranteeing a Europa League fight. The Basque coach is also doing well this season, with his team finishing second by a score behind leaders Bayern.
Will he return to the Spanish club after the end of the season, as the media is reporting? Or will he return to Spain during the season? Carlo Ancelotti’s results will probably give a clue in the coming months.
