Julian Nagelsmann is officially the new coach of the German national team. He succeeds Hansi Flick, who was dismissed from his post on 10 September. This was the day after Germany lost to Japan 1:4 in a friendly.
The former Bayern Munich coach will be on the national team bench until the end of Euro 2024, which will be held in Germany.
It should be noted that the German media reported his arrival a few days ago, on Monday 18 September. However, only now everything is officially confirmed, Nagelsmann became the youngest national team coach in the post-war history.
His appointment is also confirmed by the renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Bild newspaper reports that Nagelsmann is expected to receive around 400,000 euros a year. That is about CZK 9.8 million in our currency.
Nagelsmann was still recently the coach of Bayern Munich. However, he failed to put a game face on the Bavarian side and was subsequently sacked. His place was taken over by former Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel.
Home Euro? I’m putting everything on the line, says Nagelsmann
“We have the European Championship in our country. It is simply something special – something that happens once every few decades. I’m putting everything into making sure we play a great tournament. Next year we will be one united team,” said Nagelsmann after his appointment, quoted by Sky Sports.
The still only 36-year-old coach will be assisted by Sandro Wagner, a former Germany striker, and Benjamin Gluck, who has worked with the manager at Bayern, RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim.
Nagelsmann will take the German national team bench for the first time on October 14 when his charges take on the USA in a preparatory tour. Four days later, Germany will play Mexico.
