Real Madrid have been nothing but victorious this season, but this time they came up against a well-organised Union Berlin team who were conquering throughout the match and it was Jude Bellingham who decided the victory at the very end of the game
Today’s hero started in the starting line-up and became the 6th English player of the White Ballet to play in their jersey in European Cups.
His predecessors were Laurie Cunningham, Steve McManaman, David Beckham, Michael Owen, and Jonathan Woodgate. Bellingham, however, is clearly the youngest of them all.
Real Madrid came into the Champions League opener very active and clearly outplayed Union Berlin from the start. They finished the first half with more than 73% of the ball possession and sent 14 shots at the opponent’s goal. However, none of them ended in a goal.
In the second half, the White Ballet’s pressure increased, but it was not only the goal construction that kept Union afloat, but the great dedication of the players.
Carlo Ancelotti could only watch the goalless game until the 66th minute, when he sent Federico Valverde and Toni Kroos onto the field. However, Real Madrid continued to conquer the Union goal in vain.
Whoever was expecting a big storm at the end of the match, unfortunately did not get it and the picture of the last minutes was practically identical to what we had the opportunity to watch for the whole 90 minutes.
However, Real Madrid did manage to score in the end when an unfortunate ball deflected off Alex Kral’s back to Bellingham, who decided to keep the points at the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of the game.
According to WhoScored, the highest rated player of the match could not have been anyone other than the English midfielder, who scored his 6th goal in a Los Blancos jersey.
