Who was the most expensive transfer to the Italian Serie A? Four players went for the same price!
Italian Serie A has been experiencing a financial crash in recent years, once clubs don’t sell a player for a big sum, they can’t afford to step up and pay out a bigger sum. Financially they are suffering compared to Premier League clubs and more recently to clubs from Germany and France.
Italian Serie A has been experiencing a financial crash in recent years, once clubs don’t sell a player for a big sum, they can’t afford to step up and pay out a bigger sum. Financially they are suffering compared to Premier League clubs and more recently to clubs from Germany and France.
The transfer window that ended a few days ago is a perfect example of this. No Italian club has given more than €30 million for a player, a sum that means absolutely nothing these days. Yes, there were three Italian clubs in the semi-finals of the Champions League, but let’s be honest, if the draw hadn’t been so favourable, only Napoli could have had a chance of reaching the semi-finals.
Benjamin Pavard – Inter
The French defender who can play on the right but also in the middle moves from Bayern Munich after four years. The latest reports were that Pavard didn’t want to stay in Munich. As soon as the player said he wanted to leave the club, nothing but leaving was out of the question, the management doesn’t want to keep players who don’t want to play for the club. Bayern cashed in the aforementioned 30 million euros, 5 less than they paid for the player in 2019.
Moise Kean – Juventus
The Italian striker is only 23 years old and has already been through clubs like Juventus, PSG and Everton. He has had behavioural issues in the past, which is why Juventus sold him in 2019. Already a guest at Juventus last season, he is not the first choice for Allegri, ahead of him are snipers Milik and Vlahovic. If he could start, he’ll get injured, big bummer. He scored 6 goals last season despite everything, and it’s not only the fans who are hoping for a bit better again.
Despite his young age and playing at other clubs, Kean has already played over 100 games for the Turin big club, 104 to be precise, and managed to score 22 goals in them. His most successful engagement so far was at Paris Saint-Germain, where he played mainly from the bench and scored 17 goals in 41 games.
Manuel Locatelli – Juventus
The Italian midfielder’s two-year loan spell ended after last season, at the end of which Juventus had a mandatory option to buy him for €30 million. He’s 25 years old and respected at Juventus, more so than not, with all due respect to everyone else, he’s their most capable defensive central midfielder. He handled the competition in the form of Zakaria brilliantly and the Swiss had to move.
Jesper Lindstrøm – Napoli
The Danish midfielder was a hot commodity in the summer, Frankfurt received offers from both Napoli and Liverpool, with the Danish midfielder confirming the Anfield club’s interest a few days ago. At the age of twenty-three, he is already a Europa League winner with Frankfurt, and he was certainly not just in the squad for numbers. Last season he scored 9 goals and assisted 4, if he becomes even more productive in Naples he can expect interest from even bigger European clubs.
Looking at the recent past, the last 3 years, how many players cost more than this year’s most expensive reinforcements? You could almost count them on one hand. Juventus could afford Bremer for €41 million, Vlahovic for as much as €81.6 million and Chiesa for €42.5 million, who had been a guest at the club for a few seasons before.
Napoli bought Osimhen for 75 million euros, AC Milan made a misstep with Belgian De Ketelaeream, which they bought for 36.7 million euros, Inter reached into their pockets for 43 million and bought Hakimi, but otherwise nothing. Compared to other Euro clubs and leagues there is a big gap.
