Greenwood, die! Osasuna fans welcome English youngster to La Liga
There are a lot of eyes on Mason Greenwood in La Liga right now. After a year and a quarter of trouble with the law, he returned to football and made his debut at Getafe. However, he had to listen to some nasty abuse from Osasuna fans.
There are a lot of eyes on Mason Greenwood in La Liga right now. After a year and a quarter of trouble with the law, he returned to football and made his debut at Getafe. However, he had to listen to some nasty abuse from Osasuna fans.
Since January 2022, Mason Greenwood has not kicked a ball in an official record. In fact, he was accused of violence against his girlfriend and Manchester United immediately dropped him from the squad.
Since then, he has been on the sidelines and hasn’t appeared in public. It wasn’t until it was revealed during this spring that Greenwood’s girlfriend dropped the charges, the young couple got back together and are even expecting a child.
In England, however, Greenwood was completely written off by fans, with United’s women’s team even planning a strike if management returned him to the A-team.
So a loan spell at Getafe was baked, where Greenwood would be given the space to return to top form. The reception from the fans was unexpectedly warm, they never had such a star in the suburbs of Madrid.
But in the first competitive game, it wasn’t so friendly. Getafe were at home to Osasuna, Greenwood started on the bench.
When the 21-year-old forward went to warm up, the chant “Greenwood muérete!” (Greenwood die) came from the away section of Osasuna fans.
According to Spain’s El Diario de Navarra, Osasuna was also an option for Greenwood, but the Pamplona club eventually ruled him out due to possible reputational problems.
