Is Vinícius missing from the nomination for The Best? He cried for 4 hours, we couldn’t stop him, Ancelotti joked
Vinícius Junior is currently one of the best footballers in the world. However, FIFA did not rank him among the 12 best players in the world in its The Best poll. But according to Carlo Ancelotti, the young Brazilian is not making too much of it.
Vinícius Junior is currently one of the best footballers in the world. However, FIFA did not rank him among the 12 best players in the world in its The Best poll. But according to Carlo Ancelotti, the young Brazilian is not making too much of it.
The 2021-22 season was a season of a lifetime for Vinícius. He finally unlocked his full potential, scoring 22 goals, adding 16 assists and contributing to Real Madrid winning both La Liga and the Champions League.
Last season, he continued to perform excellently and improved his record even further, with 22 goals in 19. His great performance and a wonderful goal in the Champions League semi-final against Manchester City, after which Pep Guardiola called him one of the most dangerous players in the world.
The Best poll has shown several times in the past that it doesn’t make much sense. Either by not including certain players or, on the contrary, nominating players who didn’t deserve it so much.
On the same level is not including Vinicius in the top 12 players in the world. For example, Julian Alavarez, Marcelo Brozovic, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Victor Osimhen or Declan Rice were given priority.
Reporters also asked Carlo Ancelotti how Vinícius reacted to being left out of the nomination. The Italian coach gave a rather ironic answer.
“I saw him in the cabin just now, he was crying a lot and moaning why he wasn’t on the list. He cried for maybe 3 or 4 hours, we couldn’t stop him,” Ancelotti laughed at the press conference.
The fact that FIFA’s The Best poll is a secondary poll that doesn’t get much attention certainly plays a role. In terms of individual awards, the Ballon D’Or, or Golden Ball, still reigns supreme.
